Choosing an app

Can I use a period tracker without an account?

Yes. Seventh works without an account: what you log is stored on your phone, and signing in is optional, only to back your cycle up. Clue requires an account. Flo asks you to set one up during onboarding; you can skip registering, with limits, or use its Anonymous Mode. Without an account, your cycle has fewer places to go.

Why it matters

An account links your cycle to your email or a sign-in. That’s useful for backups, but it means your data lives on a company’s servers. Cycle data is personal, so it’s reasonable to want the choice.

How the big apps handle it

  • Clue: “To start using Clue, you’ll need to make a free account.” Data is stored on Clue’s servers in the EU, rather than on your device.
  • Flo: you set up an account in onboarding. You can skip registering, but then you can’t log in on another device and risk losing your data. Flo’s Anonymous Mode uses the app without linking your name, email or technical identifiers to your data.
  • Seventh: no account. Your logs stay on your phone. If you choose to sign in, your cycle is backed up so it can move to a new phone.

What to check in any app

  1. Does it work before you sign up?
  2. Where is your data stored: on your phone, or on its servers?
  3. What does the App Store privacy label list under “Data Used to Track You”?
  4. Can you export and delete everything yourself?

The trade-off

Without an account or backup, losing your phone can mean losing your history. In Seventh, export a file now and then, or sign in for a backup, if that worries you.

How Seventh handles your data

Seventh never sells your data, shows no ads, and has no third-party trackers or advertising SDKs. It works without an account; if you sign in, your cycle is backed up to our servers so it can be restored. Seventh counts app usage itself, without any health values. Every detail is in Seventh’s privacy policy.
